Neo-liberalism has been defined as a set of economic policies whereby the control of economic factors has moved from the public sector and is now in the private sector. It is described as an economics and social studies approach that is based on the neoclassical theories of economics. Neo-liberalism can be explained as an approach to economics that emphasizes on relatively open markets, liberalized trade activities and the efficiency of the private sector enterprises (Plant 2009). Neo-liberalism seeks to promote how the private sector determines the economic and political priorities of a country. The principles proposed by neo-liberalism seek to promote a free market (laissez-faire) environment so as to encourage economic development. Neo-liberalism is concerned with pushing the government to make certain changes to the economic environment so as to promote fairness and ensure steady econo mic growth. Some of these changes include: limiting protectionism so as to open up markets to trade, support deregulation, limiting subsidies, broadening tax base by reforming tax laws, privatizing state-run corporations, reducing deficit spending, allowing private property and removing fixed exchange rates (Bell 2006). Employment relations can be explained as the body of work or practice that is concerned with maintaining useful relationships between the employer and the employers. Employment relations is concerned with promoting meaningful employee-employer relationships that are pertinent to productivity, morale and motivation. In essence, employment relations seeks to prevent and resolve problems that involve individuals at work and which can arise out of work situations or affect work situations. It resolves conflicts. Some of the main actors in employment relations include employees, employers, trade unions and the government (Bray 2009). Australia has experienced changes pol itically, economically and socially over the years. Politically, before the 1788, the shape of Australia has not always been what it is today. It was part of a great land known as Gondwanaland. It slowly drifted away and traces of civilization began to be seen with the Aborigines. Australian Aborigine culture slowly developed. Politics in Australia began when the British came to colonize the country from 1788-1900. Between 1901 and 2000, Australia experienced the post federation period. The political framework has since changed. Politics within Australia is today guided by a framework of parliamentary democracy. The electoral procedures have also changed to suit a two party system. This means that Australia is today governed as a constitutional monarchy and as a federation. Parliamentarians in Australia are elected into parliament by the citizens. Australia has six states and two major territories which hold elections after every four years. There are both major and minor politica l parties in Australia. Most recent political changes have seen women take up high political positions such as the current Prime Minister, Julia Gillard (Bell 2007). Socially, life in Australia has also experienced a lot of changes in the remote areas, the city, the suburbs and the regional towns. Social change has been brought by the government, social expectations, globalization and businesses. Statistics presented by the 2001 census report of Australia show that there have been many social and family life changes over the past few decades. There are very few people getting into formal marriages and the number of people divorcing has sky rocketed. Childlessness has greatly increased and more people are living alone than ever before. People are increasingly delaying marriage while others are not marrying at all. Divorce rates have hit a historical high. The average household capacity in Australia has shrunk drastically. Households are dominated by single parents, people living al one and childless couples. The proportion of women who have never had children has also increased to the highest levels since the 1930s. Critics have blamed moral decay and âselfishnessâ for the declining birth rates and marriages and the increasing divorce rates (Plant 2009). Eileen Gale Kugler, a national advocate for diverse schools, wrote an article about how the diversity in schools makes academic and social improvements. She recalls a memory about a meeting she had. ââ¬Å"Parents of fourth and fifth graders were already putting up moving signs on their front yards rather than risk sending their children to a high school that was not majority white. In an effort to debunk the myths, parent leaders from the high school organized meetings in the local elementary and middle schools, bringing students, parents, and faculty from the high school to give testimony to the positive academic and social environment. As the meeting opened to questions, a longtime real estate agent from the neighborhood stood up. His own children had attended Annandale High 15 years earlier, when it was virtually all white. Does your party dress turn to rags and your beautiful carriage revert back into a pumpkin? What do you do when your last sixty minutes are up? Many people pray to their God for salvation, and many others wish to go back and correct the wrongs in their lives. Many, though, await deathââ¬â¢s embrace by cursing fate and dreading their moment of death, just as the man in A. E. We will write a custom essay sample on Eight Oââ¬â¢ Clock or any similar topic only for you Order Now Housmanââ¬â¢s poem, ââ¬Å"Eight Oââ¬â¢Clockâ⬠does. The man in the poem is on deathââ¬â¢s row and, rather than repenting and hoping for forgiveness from on high he laments his fate and angrily awaits his doom. It is apparent that the man awaits death because he is ââ¬Å"strapped, noosed, [and] nighing his house. â⬠To be strapped means that there is no way out, presumably from his situation, and he most certainly is for his situation is quite dire, and at this point he has no real chance of survival. To be noosed means one has a noose ââ¬â a rope for hanging ââ¬â tied around oneââ¬â¢s neck so that he may be hanged which only adds to the fact that heââ¬â¢s certainly strapped. To nigh oneââ¬â¢s hour means to near it, and the man must be nearing his final hour for he is certainly ready for his hanging and he continues to count down until his doom. Time is emphasized several times in the poem, showing just how close to death the man is. ââ¬Å"[He] heard the steeple sprinkle the quarters on the morning town,â⬠which is to say, he heard the bell toll each quarter of an hour as though it were raining down upon him just to mock him. The man counted them one-by-one until, on the final ring before he met his fate, ââ¬Å"the clock collected in the tower its strength, and struckâ⬠. The clockââ¬â¢s strength refers most probably to how heavily it must ring. To the man, on that final quarter hour toll, it must have sounded as heavily as he had ever heard it. For, truly, it would be the last time he ever heard it. Rather than accepting his fate, the man sits and curses it instead. To accept what is happening to him would be to admit that what he did to deserve his fate was wrong, that he was truly guilty of sin. To feel that guilt, to repent for what he had done, would be to ask forgiveness, which in all rights is the smarter path to follow. Yet, for some reason, the man asks not for forgiveness, but for the wrath of God. The man does this because it is most likely he has committed no actual crime, his fate is not deserving of the punishment bestowed upon him. He has either been framed, or the punishment placed upon him much more severe than his transgression would merit, why else would he not ask forgiveness for what he had done? It is easy to curse oneââ¬â¢s fate. It is easy to blame others for what has occurred. It is easier, still, to believe oneself innocent even when he is not. It is not easy, however, to stand and wait for death to arrive knowing that the path one chose should not have lead them there, that he should not be on his way out. Along with it bringing new discoveries, allowing for our lives to become healthier, more efficient, safer, and at the same time, possibly more dangerous. Among the forces driving scientists into these many experiments, is the desire to preserve the one fuel that keeps our lives going; FOOD. As early as the beginning of the 19th century, major breakthroughs in food preservation had begun. Soldiers and seamen, fighting in Napoleons army were living off of salt-preserved meats. These poorly cured foods provided minimal nutritional value, and frequent outbreaks of scurvy were developing. It was Napoleon who began the search for a better mechanism of food preservation, and it was he who offered 12,000-franc pieces to the person who devised a safe and dependable food-preservation process. The winner was a French chemist named Nicolas Appert. He observed that food heated in sealed containers was preserved as long as the container remained unopened or the seal did not leak. This became the turning point in food preservation history. Fifty years following the discovery by Nicolas Appert, another breakthrough had developed. Another Frenchman, named Louis Pasteur, noted the relationship between microorganisms and food spoilage. This breakthrough increased the dependability of the food canning process. As the years passed new techniques assuring food preservation would come and go, opening new doors to further research.FOOD PROCESSINGFarmers grow fruits and vegetables and fatten livestock. The fruits and vegetables are harvested, and the livestock is slaughtered for food. What happens between the time food leaves the farm and the time it is eaten at the table? Like all living things, the plants and animals that become food contain tiny organisms called microorganisms. Living, healthy plants and animals automatically control most of these microorganisms. But when the plants and animals are killed, the organisms yeast, mold, and bacteria begin to multiply, causing the food to lose flavor and change in color and texture. Just as important, food loses the nutrients that are necessary to build and replenish human bodies. All these changes in the food are what people refer to as food spoilage. To keep the food from spoiling, usually in only a few days, it is preserved. Many kinds of agents are potentially destructive to the healthful characteristics of fresh foods. Microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi, rapidly spoil food. Enzymes which are present in all raw food, promote degradation and chemical changes affecting especially texture and flavor. Atmospheric oxygen may react with food constituents, causing rancidity or color changes. Equally as harmful are infestations by insects and rodents, which account for tremendous losses in food stocks. There is no single method of food preservation that provides protection against all hazards for an unlimited period of time. Canned food stored in Antarctica near the South Pole, for example, remained edible after 50 years of storage, but such long-term preservation cannot be duplicated in the hot climate of the Tropics.Raw fruits and vegetables and uncooked meat are preserved by cold storage or refrigeration. The cold temperature inside the cold-storage compartment or refrigerator slows down the microorganisms and delays deterioration. But cold storage and refrigeration will preserve raw foods for a few weeks at most. If foods are to be preserved for longer periods, they must undergo special treatments such as freezing or heating. The science of preserving foods for more than a few days is called food processing.Human beings have always taken some measures to preserve food. Ancient people learned to leave meat and fruits and vegetables in the sun and wind to remove moisture. Since microorganisms need water to grow, drying the food slows the rate at which it spoils. Today food processors provide a diet richer and more varied than ever before by using six major methods. They are canning, drying or dehydration, freezing, freeze-drying, fermentation or pickling, and irradiation. .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777 , .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777 .postImageUrl , .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777 , .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777:hover , .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777:visited , .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777:active { border:0!important; } .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777:active , .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777 .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4d2a23ebc9c78dafbd53df91703b4777:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Fruit Loops EssayCanningThe process of canning is sometimes called sterilization because the heat treatment of the food eliminates all microorganisms that can spoil the food and those that are harmful to humans, including directly pathogenic bacteria and those that produce lethal toxins. The argument comes from the speaker, a man to a woman, or to we the audience. The first half of the poem is the speaker trying to woo her. Then the speaker says that they are running out of time and death is upon them. Marvell's argument begins with if we had all the time in the world then we could take the time to love: Had we but world enough, and time, this coyness, lady, were no crime. We would sit down, and think which way to walk, and pass our long love's day. (1-4) Then he tries to prove to this shy woman the amount of time he would spend admiring her. He says that he would love her from the beginning of time until Judgment Day: Love you ten years before the Flood, and you should, if you please, refuse till the conversion of the Jews. (8-9) He has a large, slow growing nature of affection, and he will spend all of his years admiring all the parts of her body: My vegetable love should grow vaster than empires, and more slow; and hundred years should go to praise thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze; two hundred to adore each breast, but thirty thousand to the rest; an age at least to every part, and the last age should show your heart. (11-18) He says that the length of time is all right due to her beauty: For, lady, you deserve this state, nor would I love at lower rate. (19) The argument now changes to its darker side. Marvell uses metaphors to say that time is passing by quickly and death awaits them: Time's winged chariot hurrying near; and yonder all before us lie deserts of vast eternity. (22-24) He makes reference to a grave and a burial service saying that it is an unsuitable place for lovers to embrace: Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound my echoing song; then worms shall try that long-preserved virginity, and your quaint honor turn to dust, and into ashes all my lust: the grave's is a fine a private place, but none, I think, do there embrace. (26-32) The final part of the poem gives reference to sex. He speaks of the youthful freshness of her skin and of her passion. Next he uses a metaphor, which can be translated into pouncing upon each other: And now like enormous birds of prey, rather at once our time devour than languish in his slow-chapped power. (38-40) He is seemingly telling her what he wants, asking if he can enter into her womb: Let us roll all our strength and all our sweetness up into a ball, and tear our pleasures with rough strife thorough the iron gates of life: thus, though we cannot make our sun stand still, yet we will make him run. (41-46) The sun represents time, and man cannot move the sun, therefore, he cannot make time stand still proving mans inability to live forever. The last line states that they can make whatever they want out of life, or make their own sun run. He went from trying to get her in his bed by displaying his utmost admiration of her, to death is right around the corner. Marvell was saying that you cannot cheat death or time, all you can do is make the most of it. He uses the word ?Now? to make a point that life is now. Ironically, Marvell gave the image of light and the image of brightness, with his use of the sun and the ?instant fires,? to give a luster and to show the idea of her giving up her shyness or coyness. This contrasted with the darkness, and essential remorse that life is not eternal, which is the key to getting what he wants from her. Not only was Dusicyon the only prehistoric dog to live on the Falkland Islands (a few hundred miles off the coast of Argentina), but it was the only mammal, periodmeaning it preyed not on cats, rats or pigs, but birds, insects, and possibly even shellfish that washed up along the shore. Exactly how Dusicyon wound up on the Falklands is a bit of a mystery; the most likely scenario is that it hitched a ride with early human visitors from South America thousands of years ago. Dusicyon earned its amusing nameGreek for foolish dogbecause, like many animals restricted to island habitats, it didnt know enough to be afraid of the second wave of human settlers to the Falklands during the 17th century. The problem was, these settlers arrived with the intention of herding sheep, and thus felt compelled to hunt Dusicyon to extinction (the usual method: luring it near with a tasty piece of meat, and then clubbing it to death when it took the bait). The last Dusicyon individuals expired in 1876, only a few years after Charles Darwin had the opportunity to learn aboutand be puzzled bytheir existence. Moreover the harsher decision of sentencing Antigone to death because she vehemently protested the dishonourable events that Polynices was made to undergo in not allowing a proper burial, was another nail in the coffin for Creon. Through the voice of Sophocles the need for showing mercy, giving benediction and forgiving was impressed upon the minds of the audiences, the people of Athens. Through the series of misfortunes on Creon and the unusual turn of events that brought him from the royal throne of Thebes to the grave of sorrow and great anguish was a clear portrayal of Godââ¬â¢s will holding sway over manââ¬â¢s mortal wish. The play Antigone, serves as a guide for a solution to the eternal questions of the individual versus the community or, Godââ¬â¢s rule versus manââ¬â¢s rule through the foreboding of Sophocles, the forewarning of Tiresias and the various events where mercy and forgiveness was asked for. These were clear signs of Natureââ¬â¢s law, Godââ¬â¢s will and the communityââ¬â¢s prosperity being sacrificed for the safeguarding of one manââ¬â¢s monarchic ways. Every time that a greater good was sacrificed for a manââ¬â¢s stubborn decision, Sophocles was heard lamenting the grave decision. According to Tiresiasââ¬â¢ reasoning there are certain acts which should not be done because they are against the meaning and nature of Godââ¬â¢s creation. As for example the burial for Antigone underneath the earth alive was a direct defiance of a creatureââ¬â¢s purpose, it was merciless and atrocious. Tiresias warned Creon of not burying Antigone alive as it was improper of letting a body perish underneath the earth alive. In this play the tussle or indecision of Creon causes him the loss of his wife, son and Dominic Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04307786532921450204noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3953494253014853811.post-71684643205481602742020-02-03T18:32:00.001-08:002020-02-03T18:32:02.615-08:00State of the Economi in Bosnia Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 wordsState of the Economi in Bosnia - Case Study Example It also ensures that the graduates accomplish their masterââ¬â¢s degree in a short time and thus enable them to access the job market in the shortest time possible. This short program has various disadvantages, which includes generation, of little revenue on a student basis compared with the long program model. The shorter model will ensure that the students finish as quickly as possible and give room for new ones to join the school. This would provide an opportunity to the College to earn extra income and complement the one that would be earned by the long program. The short model would offer ten courses in a period of eleven months while the long would offer sixteen courses in a period twenty months. Most of the students would be interested in the ten courses model since they pay a premium over the other schools offering graduate management education. Since most of the students want to concentrate on other issues like seeking for employment, people would adopt the shorter model since it would take those two years which is a relatively short period to accomplish their studies. Discounted Cash Flow Analysis A Discounted Cash Flow method of valuation estimates the credibility of an investment that is worth investing. In a case where the value that one arrives at through this DCF method is higher than the cost of investment, then the opportunity is viable. Discounted Cash Flow= 425,000-87,250/ (1+0.15) + 350,000-87250/ (1+0.15)2 = 735,899.375 US dollars. One achieves this amount after taking the revenue that the organization realizes after an enrolment of 25 students for both programs. The tuition for each cohort is $ 17,000 for the short program and $ 14,000 for the long program. The students prefer the short program since taking part of the program is of little value with regard to enhancement of their career prospects. The students should ensure that they complete their course since it if finishing that counts with MBA. One finds that the models are realist ic and worth investing in since the DCF amount is favourable. Since the amount of revenue that these two projects would generate, is higher than the cost of investing, the project is, therefore, viable and worth venturing. Consideration of other firms who offer Masters in Business Administration, in the country, also provides vital information concerning investing in the project. It will provide the expected price that should be charged in the market and the expected level of expenses that the college should incur in the process of running the programs. Pros of the long program The long program will generate reasonable profits to the school in case a reasonable number of students join the program. This will ensure that the school develops due to availability of resources that it develops through making profits. It is also cheaper where compared with a short program and students can easily raise the fees with a lot of struggles. The administration distributes tuition fee over a longe r duration of time. The students undertaking the long program has a possibility of performing well since they have few courses to concentrate on in a long duration of time. Cons of the long program The long program takes a reasonably longer time when compared to the short program. It requires a large amount of capital for investment since the number of costs involved in running the program is higher. Pros of the short program The short program saves time for students and equips them with the MBA degree which they will use to secure employment opportunities in the job market. This gives them competitive advantage when compared with the long program students who spend a lot of time in school. They are the industry standard for quality, have massive revenues, and the largest growth. In fact, the company continues to set new passenger number records. The first thing I will do in evaluating the companys competitive position is to do a SWOT analysis. Some of the companys main strengths include: cruise capacity levels, branding, variety of activities, price compared to other vacation options, and their ability to stay frugal and efficient. The main weaknesses I have identified were they were still considered to be an expensive option for vacations, perceptions of lower-quality (despite major quality improvements), perceptions of being geared to certain demographics, and some IT issues. Certain opportunities available to the company include a chance to narrow the gap between quality and perception of quality, direct marketing through new intermediaries, and more growth in their industry. Major threats to the compa ny are the economy, fuel prices, and hurricane seasons. Overall, looking at the SWOT analysis, it is easy to see why CCL is the industry leader. They have many strengths, only a few weaknesses, opportunities to work on their weaknesses, and threats that affect many industries, not just their own. Looking at the five competitive forces model, I believe CCL is in a strong competitive position. The only threat I think is a big deal for the company at this point is the threat of fierce competition. Ten brands control 95% of the market, and despite the bad economy those companies are also showing growth. Not only does CCL compete against other cruise ships, they also compete against other forms of vacation entertainment. Some examples mentioned in the case include the vacation opportunities in the Orlando and Las Vegas markets. To make sure they handle this competition, the company must continue to improve in order to dominate the market. The threat of new entrants is weak because of the major start-up costs in their industry and the importance of brand-recognition in their industry. The bargaining power of the buyers is moderate-to-weak because switching costs for customers are high when considering the value they get with CCL despite possible substitutes. Bargaining power of sup pliers is getting weaker as travel agencies are going away and costs of dealing with the customer are being minimized. It is possible that CCL will have to deal with the threat of substitute products because there are viable options beyond CCL. However, CCL has positioned themselves very well to deal with this competition through giving the customer great value for the price. They mentioned in the case that their goal with each customer is to exceed the customers expectations to the best of their ability. Doing so will add value to firm because it will likely increase the customers willingness to pay. Another way to continue to improve the company will include using a virtual value chain with online intermediaries rather than travel agents in order to lessen the costs of booking customers and to directly market to prospective customers. I believe this can add great value to the firm by decreasing the cost of doing business through intermediaries and increasing customer awareness of vacationing with CCL. If they can take advantages of their opportunities, their competitive position will continue to be strong. Question 2: Should CCL implement a CRM strategy? (Justify your answer). If so, how would you implement it? If not, what other enterprise systems would you recommend instead? (Justify your answer). Perform a security and privacy risk assessment related to your recommendation. For each major risk, what should the company do? There are positives and negatives for CCL implementing a CRM strategy. I will use this chance to make an argument for implementing a CRM strategy, highlight the positive aspects of this strategy and explain how this strategy makes up for the negative aspects. They are the industry leaders in almost every aspect of their business except for lagging information systems. If they improve this aspect of their business, they can possibly increase their strategic advantages for the long-term future. For now, CCL enjoys a strong relationship with travel agents who refer their clients to CCL regularly. This has been a very valuable relationship for CCL over the years. The market is changing in the travel and tourism industry because of the development of intermediaries on the internet who make direct connections from customer to business. This trend is going to be the dominant way of doing business in the short-term and long-term futures of the industry. CCL management argues in the case that they want to balance this relationship with travel agents with this new wave. I argue that travel agents are on their way out of business and it should not be a focus for the company in the long-term. Having a CRM strategy will improve their abilities to reach out to the customer base on the internet and should transform their value chain completely to virtual means. This will cut their costs dramatically and will help the bottom line. This also allows the customer to ask for services directl y from CCL. This can result in greater customer service for CCL. It mentioned in the case that the handoff of information from CCL to travel agent to customer was often slow. Eliminating the need for travel agents and dealing directly with customers will also improve customer service by making it a much faster and more efficient process. To me, it makes a lot of sense for CCL. This CRM strategy will not be an overnight process and neither will the demise of the travel agent business, so the strategy they have for now should serve their needs well until they develop this strategy to an acceptable level. There were quite a few other key points I read in the case that stand out to me in supporting a CRM strategy. Management stressed the importance of fitting their services to customers changing tastes. This is a reasonable goal. If this goal is truly important, developing a successful CRM strategy can help them track these changing tastes in the most effective way. This includes a possible improvement in the check-in process for customers boarding the cruise ship. The current process requires hours for each customer in order to pass through security. If they can update their information systems to hold security information and some biometrics, security can be quicker and possibly of better quality. The case also pointed out that CCL has a wide variety of customers unlike their competitors. This can be a great advantage to the company if CCL can utilize their information systems in a way that provides the company with information about the mix of customers they have for a certain cruis e. Planning for a customer base that is homogenized is much easier than making strategic plans for a customer base that is diverse. It would certainly be an advantage to CCL to have a CRM strategy that helped them with this diverse customer base. They mention in the case that customer loyalty is a great strength of the company and they hope to continue to increase customer loyalty. Having a CRM strategy that can help improve customer service and improve the services offered to customers and can certainly create loyalty. One aspect of their CRM strategy I would not be as concerned with is developing a highly detailed rewards program to go along with it. The company has experimented with this idea and has a simple system they use. I think it would be fine to continue with something simple like this but do not see any reason to create a detailed plan. I believe the degree of customability is low for this industry and the repurchase rate for customers is typically once a year. Therefore, investing in a rewards program would result in a low payoff. Also, competitors in their industry have tried using rewards programs and the results have not been positive for these companies. At this point, I do not see a major need for CCL to develop their rewards program further. So I have argued for a new CRM strategy. How does CCL implement such a strategy? First, it has to be realized that CRM strategies are only strategies, not technology. In order to effectively implement this kind of strategy, it is imperative that there is an information technology infrastructure in place. This means that the databases have to be strong and the information has to be reliable. This is the first step of the process for implementation. According to the case, CCL already has the databases there for use, including Oracle databases called Property Management Systems (PMS) and Point of Sale (POS). The problem right now with their infrastructure is issues they have with data integrity and availability, as pointed out on page 412. Regardless of whether or not CCL implements a CRM strategy, issues with data integrity and availability are major issues that should be dealt with to have good information and security. The second step of implementing the new CRM strategy is to change the database design in a way that can improve customer and transactional data so the company can use the information. Having this data funnel into one data store can help the company get the most out of the relationships they build with the various intermediaries they will have online as well as through their website. Certainly, at this point implementing a CRM strategy will require major considerations for funding and how this information system will be created or bought. For funding initiatives within this new CRM strategy, the steering committee will have to figure out what would add the greatest value to the firm and what they will do to create the information systems that fit this strategy. At this point, I do not think I have enough information in order to have an opinion on how to do this. As I mentioned earlier in the paper, security and privacy risk seems to be a major issue for this company. It was mentioned in the case that information integrity and availability are not at acceptable levels. This has to be addressed immediately in order to have good information, which is imperative for effective information systems. Security and privacy are not just IT issues; they are issues that go the very top of management. Therefore, measures have to be put in place to protect the information that CCL obtains from using this CRM strategy. The information systems created because of this strategy will likely contain very sensitive information such as credit card numbers. In accordance with the importance placed on privacy, the company should look to obtain a trust seal from TRUSTe, WebTrust, or the Better Business Bureau. Also, a privacy statement should be drafted for the site in order to help gain the customers trust. Beyond that, I think the major issue will be preventing hac kers from getting sensitive information from the companys information systems and I think one step that will help is hiring a third party to conduct an information systems audit. This will help the company identify weaknesses that they can improve. Policies and training for employees will also need to be evaluated in order to prevent phishing or social engineering. If they can continually assess their security and privacy needs with the suggestions I have made, their security and privacy should be fine. It will then be up to the company to straighten out the mess they made with their information quality. Organizations may have formalized selection, evaluation, and payroll processes. Efficient and effective management of ââ¬Å"Human Capitalâ⬠progressed to an increasingly imperative and complex process. The HR function consists of tracking existing employee data which traditionally includes personal histories, skills, capabilities, accomplishments and salary. To reduce the manual workload of these administrative activities, organizations began to electronically automate many of these processes by introducing specialized human resource management systems. HR executives rely on internal or external IT professionals to develop and maintain an integrated HRMS. Before the clientââ¬âserver architecture evolved in the late 1980s, many HR automation processes were relegated to mainframe computers that could handle large amounts of data transactions. In consequence of the high capital investment necessary to buy or program proprietary software, these internally developed HRMS were limited to organizations that possessed a large amount of capital. Raija and Hlonen (2009) described the role of information systems in the process of combining district organizations which use information system in financial administration, HRM and social welfare. They explored the role of IS in decision-making in public sector. The lack of inter-opera ability between legacy systems and new information systems was perceived as a huge problem. In the present situation of our economy, most of the companies used manual system in their company, also some are using computerized system which lessen the expenses and saves time. An effective and well-designed Human Resource Information System shall make it easier to manage record, update files and retrieve records in Employee records. Confidentially, accuracy and integrity are maintained. The use of computer enables user to minimize efforts to do a certain job or action nowadays. When the Information Technology emerged, it gave a great impact when it comes to business problems especially when it comes to data entry accuracy, managing dataââ¬â¢s and retrievals. Dr. Karishna & Meena (2010) identified the various functional areas to which ICT is deployed for information administration in Higher Education institutions. Current level of usage indicates a clear integration of ICT for managerial or information based administration in higher education institutes. Matthew &Douglas (2009) analyzed that nature of developing IS in any organization is characterized by multi dimensional and often messy problems, involving technical organizations and personal dimensions. David et al(2010) analyzed the main traits of efficient firms and the main sources of firmââ¬â¢s efficiency through samples of catalan firms. Firms efficiency shows a significant improvement when advanced ICT uses are combined with human resource practices, Dileep (2010) indicate that HRIS is an integration of HRM and information systems. HRIs helps HR managers perform HR functions in a more effective and systematic way using technology. HRIs system usually a part of the organizationââ¬â¢s larger management information system which would include accounting, production and marketing functions. Ikhlas & Zaid (2010) indicate that the quick response and access to information were the main benefits of HRIS implementation. They also identified the cultural and financial barriers to the implementation of HRIS. Kristine & David (2010) identified the implementations or upgradation of HRIS has been undertaken with the aim of utilizing HRM functions.. Barriers also associated with the acceptance of new or upgraded HRIS.HRIS play an important role in shaping user perception and behavior. The addition of information technology to the human resource industry has revolutionized the contemporary workplace. HR professionals now have an increased capacity not only to gather information, but also to store and retrieve it in a timely and effective manner. This has not only increased the efficiency of the organization but also the effectiveness of management functions. New technology has also created opportunities for higher levels of stress for younger and older workers alike (Mujtaba, Afza, and Habib, N. (2011), unethical temptations and behaviors (Mujtaba, 2011), and opportunities for better leadership practices (Mujtaba and Afza, 2011). After delivering our suggestions for the Customer Appreciation Program, Kudler has asked us to evaluate the Human Resource Department, to see what changes need to made, to make the process better and smoother. Before making suggestions, we have to analyze their current setup. The Human Resources Department is a valuable department, so we want to assure that Kudlerââ¬â¢s is running smoothly and efficiently. Kudlerââ¬â¢s current HR Department is setup in the following manner: they use Quick Books and outsourced their payroll to Intuit. Intuit tracks all the following information for each employee. They track the employeeââ¬â¢s personal information, pay rate, tax exemptions, hire date, seniority date, and organizational information. Changes to any of this information, can only be change by submitting a special form in writing by the employeeââ¬â¢s supervisor and entered by the accounting clerk. The accounting clerk also keeps a file with the appropriate tax forms for each employee and all changes to employee data. The employees turn in manual time sheets weekly, which are approved by the store manager. The time sheets are then faxed to accounting, where they are entered for payroll. All changes have to be approved by the direct supervisor and store manager. Each store manager is responsible for keeping the files of their employees. They are kept in a locked file and include the following information: job application or resume, performance reviews, I-9 forms, and any disciplinary memos or performance management issues. The managers are also responsible for tracking any time off, which includes vacations. SPARââ¬â¢s Applied Systemsââ¬â¢ client base primarily consists of government-based agency, from Canadaââ¬â¢s Department of National Defense to U.Sââ¬â¢s Navy and Coast Guard. However due to shrinking budgets in the defense department of government-based agency, SPARs Applied Systems faces the external pressures of less sales due to lower demanded from its major clients. Along with decrease demand ASG also faces the problem of its heritage programs nearing competition, 70% of its revenues will be gone once these projects are completed. ASG also have the policy of cost plus when working on government projects, which meant if the project was delayed or went over budget ASG would have to eat the cost. Another external pressure that is forcing ASG to change is the company is technology foc us rather than customer focus, with the increasing competitions in the market ASG is ill prepare for the external pressure of growing competitiveness in their field. A major internal pressure ASG is experiencing has to do with their employees, although ASGââ¬â¢s employees are the most skilled in their field, the company itself did not know how to best direct their energy. The employees were comfortable working in their current environment, which means costs are not effectively allocated. With declining revenue it is critical for management to change the culture in order for the company to be more profitable. Along with the contract of cost plus it becomes clear that ASG needs to allocate their cost efficiently in order to generate profit. In conclusion none of this can be achieved without Stephen Miller. What Makes Stephen great leaders, when Stephen faced numerous challenges when he took on the role as the General Manager at ASG.? The problems that he faced were quite difficult to solve with a single solution, rather there were multiple alternatives. The greatest challenge we believe that he faced was that ASG was competition in a decreasing market, which was Government aviation and defense industry. Majority of the companyââ¬â¢s revenues came from government contracts that were soon to be ending. The entire government spending towards defense and space aviation was decreasing and ASG had to make the transition towards more consumer based. In regards to that single problem, Stephen faced a lot of internal and external pressures. Stephen had to change the corporate culture from focusing on being technology driven to customer based. There were two kind of leadership that we think Stephen used as the GM. First it was situational leadership because, that leadership is composed of both a directive and a supportive dimension, and each has to be applied appropriately in a given situation. He actively searched out the best and the most experienced candidates in their field of work or specialty. Stephen then would guide them with both the directive and supportive dimensions until they were truly good what they did for ASG. The second leadership was the Path goal theory, the reason I saw that is because theory is about how leaders motivate subordinates to accomplish designated goals. The reason why I say that is because, the company was moving in a new direction, and Stephen was trying to foster a new corporate culture. He was trying fostering team work, opening communication channels and acknowledging great performance from individuals. Stephen motivated his colleagues to believe in the new path that was set by first focusing on the employees. In addition Stephen was a transformation leader he used the Inspirational Motivation technique which fostered team spirit, motivation and provide meaning and challenge to his colleagues. The challenge that ASG faced, Stephen made every believe that was their personal problem. Lastly how did he overcome the team leadership problem? Well what Stephen has singular responsibility for running a custom that will help the group accomplish efficacy. Well team leadership incorporates both internal and external situations. Stephen did that be choosing which methods would benefits his company the most. One of the best decision Stephen did was hire Ana Solari, but what were her challenges. ââ¬Å"Anna Solari with an experience of 10-years, worked as Human Resources Consultant for two Different commercial high technology firmsâ⬠(Rowe, 244). She is relatively new to Spar Applied system and her new job as a director is to create ââ¬Å"departmental vision and strategy for 2000â⬠(Rowe, 241). She began her work by gathering data from a population of 341 employees and named it ââ¬Å"Baseline Auditâ⬠. She was excited with the challenge that well established company wants to focus more on commercially oriented aviation customers than government customers. The Baseline Audit introduces several challenges to Anna and these are as follow: Anna finds that ASG functional departments operates in isolation and ââ¬Å"upper management wanteda structure organized by process that functioned in integrated teams created for specific contractsâ⬠(Rowe, 245), So ASG improves its market share by providing products on time. Furthermore, Anna describes the corporate culture as ââ¬Å"When I walked into was a very traditional, hierarchical organization with four or five layers of management.â⬠(Rowe, 245) that she believe major hurdle in communication between upper management and general workers. As a result, accountability cannot be managed properly because it rests with those who possessed the ââ¬Å"managerâ⬠title. Anna was surprise to know that work place appearance was detrimental ââ¬Å"such as the color of the paint on the walls, poor ventilation, and questions about health and safety standards from workers.â⬠(Rowe, 245) she wondered how the company will eliminate the next attempt of unionization, if management couldnââ¬â¢t motivate employees. Recruitment and training is another area, where she feels ASG should look into so new ideas and performance can be improved. As she said ââ¬Å"they broke out of the mold a little bit when they hired me.â⬠(Rowe, 246) Since Applied System Group is technology base department, therefore, it prefers hiring from within because they believe experience is much better than new graduate. It also limits the involvement of Human Resource department that make sure whether the worker is fit for new role. Furthermore, if an employee needs critical training which is not available within the organization then ASG sends the worker outside to community college. This practice shows that department doesnââ¬â¢t have enough technical staff or expertise that trains employees. In regards to the new direction of ASG under Stephen Miller, what changes were needed? From our analysis, Stephen Miller determined that ASG was unable to compete in the commercial marketplace. ASG products were marketed for government and military client and failed the ability to meet the requirement of new customers. Under the direction of Stephen miller, the changes that were needed in the HR department were (1) dramatically change the ASG culture from technology driven to market driven, (2) make possible for the division to make more money for at least six months in a row, (3) Design a global long-term strategy rather than short-term strategy to help ASG to create a culture that will allow more teamwork and open communication to increase both the flexibility and performance of the organization Anna clearly best approached to lead her HR department smoothly is using the transformational change framework. It involves an entire rethinking of how the company is structured and managed, and emphasize at eliminating the poor management skills to prevent the next unionization. In such change, instead of conforming to procedures and practices, the company needs to restructure and redefines its practices and policies. Anna experienced culture at ASG was quite formal where major problem encountered in communication between upper management and general employees, equity, behavior shifts, overtime policies and sick leave, poor working condition and little face-to-face communication are the main hurdle for HR department run smoothly. Anna best approached to loosen up the company situation is by using the transformational change framework to restructure and redefines its practices and policies. Kitto, and venture my own humble opinion as to their validity. Brian Vickers clearly favors the character of Antigone. He challenges Hegel and Hegels view that both Creon and Antigone were essentially right in their beliefs. Vickers sums up Hegels theories in a single diagram (Vickers 526), showing Creon and Antigone as forces inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Oedipus unyielding quest for the truth fits his self image as a man of action, the revealer of truth, and the solver of riddles. Oedipus proclaims his intention of finding Laius killers by saying, Then once more I must bring what is dark to light. (Sophocles 49). Creon, after being accused by Oedipus of conspiring against the king, retorted, You do wrong when you take good men for bad, bad men for good. . . . In time you will know this well. (Sophocles 58). Oedipus, however, never learns in time; he remains unchanged. Oedipus, after his terrible self-mutilation, realizes that he treated Creon unjustly: Alas, how can I speak to him? What right have I to beg his courtesy whom I deeply wronged? (Sophocles 70). But later, Creon has to remind Oedipus that he is no longer king when he starts issuing imperious commands such as: But let me go, Creon!; Take pity on them; see, they are only children, friendless except for you.; Promise me this, Great Prince, and give me your hand in token of it.; No! How do these make us vulnerable to errors, risks, and/or failures? Answer: The technological devices has substituted our daily tasks starting from elimination of bulk paperwork to multitasking like calculation and playing games, healthcare, booking tickets and most importantly the use of internet has made every information one click away (Villegas, 2013). We are vulnerable to risks and errors because the technological devices supports our survival, the thought of losing them or even running out of battery leads to panic attacks (Turkle, 2012). Hence, without science and technology we are left stagnant. References Turkle, S. (2012).Alone together: Why we expect more from technology and less from each other. Basic books. Villegas, A. Ever since I tried my first Egg McMuffin as a kid, I was hooked. Since then, the breakfast menu has greatly expanded. Regardless of your taste, you can find some breakfast deliciousness at Mickey Dââ¬â¢s. Furthermore, now McDonaldââ¬â¢s is offering all-day breakfast. The powers that be heard our cries, so even if you canââ¬â¢t wake up early or you like breakfast for dinner, you can satisfy your cravings. Unfortunately, though, not every breakfast item is offered all day. In this article, Iââ¬â¢ll give you all the information you need to know about McDonaldââ¬â¢s breakfast. Iââ¬â¢ll describe and evaluate each item on the breakfast menu. Additionally, Iââ¬â¢ll let you know when regular breakfast is usually offered, and what breakfast items you can get outside of the normal breakfast hours. The McDonaldââ¬â¢s Breakfast Menu Below, I'll break down all of the items on the McDonaldââ¬â¢s breakfast menu. The prices do vary based on location, and sadly, menu items vary by location. However, these are the current staples of the McDonaldââ¬â¢s breakfast menu. Keep in mind that some areas will offer unique items to cater to the tastes of the local population. For example, you can get lobster rolls in the Northeast and cranberry-orange muffins in the Midwest. Additionally, some regions will try out various menu items before theyââ¬â¢re rolled out nationally. In February of 2016, McDonaldââ¬â¢s began testing low carb breakfast bowls and incorporating Chobani Greek yogurt into the Fruit ââ¬ËN Yogurt Parfait at locations in Los Angeles and San Diego. The breakfast bowls that are being tested are an egg white and turkey sausage bowl with spinach and kale, and a scrambled egg and chorizo bowl with a hash brown, salsa, and Pico de Gallo. If these items are successful, youââ¬â¢re bound to see them at more locations in the future. With all that out of the way, it's time for me to guide you through the national McDonald's breakfast menu. It's divided by ââ¬Å"regularâ⬠and ââ¬Å"healthyâ⬠items. I tried to list the items in order of popularity. For each item, Iââ¬â¢ve given the following info: Price A description A score based on taste (from 0-5 sausage patties) My review, semi-ironically entitled "The Skinny" Nutritional Content Regular Breakfast Items These are the breakfast menu items for those who are less concerned about nutritional content and more concerned with flavor. Hash Browns Cost: $1.00 What is it? Fried Russet potatoes. The hash browns come in one piece; itââ¬â¢s like an oval-shaped patty. This makes them easier to eat, especially while driving. You can hold them in your hand and eat them without utensils. Score: 4 sausage patties The Skinny: If you like potatoes, a little crunch, and fried goodness, youââ¬â¢ll enjoy McDonaldââ¬â¢s breakfast hash browns. While the hash browns are satisfying on their own, they can be enhanced with some ketchup. Also, they can be a touch on the greasy side, so hold them from the wrapper while youââ¬â¢re eating them if you want to avoid greasy fingers. Nutritional Info Calories Protein Fat Carbs Sodium 150 1 g 9 g 15 g 530 mg Egg McMuffin Cost: $2.79 What Is it? The Egg McMuffin is the most famous of the McDonaldââ¬â¢s breakfast offerings. Itââ¬â¢s a poached egg with Canadian bacon and melted cheese on an English muffin. Score: 4.5 sausage patties The Skinny: Iââ¬â¢m skeptical of anybody who doesnââ¬â¢t like McDonaldââ¬â¢s Egg McMuffin. The combination of the egg, cheese, Canadian bacon, and English muffin are completely harmonious. Each layer provides a different texture and flavor that works well together. Itââ¬â¢s satiating yet not too heavy. If youââ¬â¢ve never had McDonaldââ¬â¢s breakfast, I recommend opting for this breakfast entree for your first time. Itââ¬â¢s a safe choice. Nutritional Content Calories Protein Fat Carbs Sodium 300 17 grams 12 grams 29 grams 720 mg Sausage McMuffin Cost: $1.00 What Is it? The Sausage McMuffin is an English muffin topped with a sausage patty and American cheese. Basically, itââ¬â¢s an Egg McMuffin with sausage instead of the poached egg and Canadian bacon. Score: 3.5 sausage patties The Skinny: At $1.00, the Sausage McMuffin provides tremendous value, given that itââ¬â¢s roughly the same size and almost as filling as the Egg McMuffin, but itââ¬â¢s offered for a fraction of the price. The sausage is packed with flavor, but this is the simplest of the breakfast sandwiches. Itââ¬â¢s a good option for sausage lovers who want a basic meal. Nutritional Content Calories Protein Fat Carbs Sodium 400 14 grams 25 grams 28 grams 750 mg Sausage McMuffin With Egg Cost: $2.79 What Is it? As the name implies, itââ¬â¢s a Sausage McMuffin with egg. Itââ¬â¢s a sausage patty, cheddar cheese, and poached egg on an English muffin. Score: 4 sausage patties The Skinny: This is just an Egg McMuffin substituting sausage for the Canadian bacon. Because Canadian bacon is healthier, the Sausage McMuffin with Egg has more fat and sodium than the Egg McMuffin. However, if youââ¬â¢re just focused on taste, you canââ¬â¢t go wrong with this breakfast sandwich. The poached egg cuts through the saltiness of the sausage, and the English muffin soaks up some of the grease. Each layer is tasty on its own, and you get your meat, dairy, and carbs all in one bite. If youââ¬â¢re considering a biscuit sandwich, this is a good one to try. Itââ¬â¢s nothing original, but taste trumps originality. Just a sausage patty on a biscuit. At least the Sausage McMuffin comes with cheese. But, if you like biscuits and sausage, youââ¬â¢ll be content with this option. Personally, I prefer the McDonaldââ¬â¢s poached egg to the folded egg, but thereââ¬â¢s nothing wrong with the folded egg. Itââ¬â¢s a step up from a hospital omelet, but Iââ¬â¢m not sure if thatââ¬â¢s a ringing endorsement. The Score: 4.5 sausage patties The Skinny: The griddle cakes on McDonaldââ¬â¢s breakfast menu are ridiculously good. They offer a touch of sweetness with the maple-infused flavor, but the sweetness isnââ¬â¢t overpowering. As I previously mentioned, bacon, egg, and cheese are the quintessential breakfast sandwich combo, but the griddle cakes make this entree special. You have the sweet from the griddle cakes, the salty from the sausage, plus the richness of the egg and cheese. Iââ¬â¢d give this sandwich 3 thumbs up if I had 3 thumbs. The Big Breakfast resembles a cafeteria breakfast. However, itââ¬â¢s a good cafeteria breakfast, and you get a full meal for a low price. The bacon, egg, and cheese taste good, but I think most people will prefer these toppings on the biscuit. Iââ¬â¢m sure my dad, a native New Yorker, would eat the entire sandwich, but he wouldn't give the bagel itself high marks. The grilled onions add some crunch and extra flavor. This sandwich provides a hearty combination of goodness. Fruit and Maple Oatmeal Cost: $1.99 What Is it? Whole grain oats, a touch of cream, red and green apples, cranberries, and two types of raisins. Available with or without brown sugar. Score: 3.5 sausage patties The Skinny: Normally I find oatmeal relatively bland, but McDonaldââ¬â¢s breakfast menu serves up this dish packed with yummy flavors. The fruit is surprisingly good, the cream adds some richness, and the maple provides some additional sweetness. And it only has 4 grams of fat. It may be healthier than the Egg McMuffin, but it doesnââ¬â¢t taste as good. With fat comes flavor, and this sandwich could use some flavor enhancement. Itââ¬â¢s similar to the Egg McMuffin, but itââ¬â¢s not as tasty. Nutritional Info Calories Protein Fat Carbs Sodium 250 17 g 8 g 28 g 720 mg Fruit ââ¬ËN Yogurt Parfait Cost: $1.00 What Is it? I donââ¬â¢t know exactly where McDonaldââ¬â¢s gets its fruit and how the fruit is preserved, but the fruit tastes good. The sweetness of the fruit works well with the tartness of the yogurt. And the granola adds some crunch. Not bad at all. Outside of the designated breakfast hours, you can only get breakfast grub from the all-day breakfast menu, which has a fraction of the breakfast options. Breakfast hours vary by location, but here are the typical McDonaldââ¬â¢s breakfast hours: Monday-Friday: 5:00 AM-10:30 AM Saturday-Sunday: 5:00 AM-11:00 AM However, you may be able to get breakfast earlier at 24-hour McDonaldââ¬â¢s. The All-Day Breakfast Menu McDonaldââ¬â¢s answered my prayers and started offering all-day breakfast in the fall of 2015. Here are the items on the typical all-day breakfast menu. These are usually the only breakfast items you can purchase outside of the designated breakfast hours: Egg McMuffin Sausage McMuffin Sausage McMuffin With Egg Hotcakes Hotcakes and Sausage Fruit 'N Yogurt Parfair Sausage Burrito Fruit and Maple Oatmeal Hash Browns Beverage Choices While Iââ¬â¢m more focused on my breakfast food, I know some people take their beverages very seriously. For those of you who need a coffee drink to start your day, McDonaldââ¬â¢s has a number of options for you. It expanded from just its basic coffee when it launched its line of McCafe drinks in 2009. Here are all your drink options and their prices. You can substitute the coffee for a juice or another beverage for an additional fee, usually the difference in price between a small coffee and your drink of choice. Generally, when you order a combo meal, you're basically paying for your entree and hash browns, and then getting your coffee for free. So it may make sense to order the extra value meal, depending on what you want. Here are the meals normally offered: Egg McMuffin Meal Sausage McMuffin With Egg Meal Bacon, Egg, Cheese Biscuit Meal Sausage Biscuit With Egg Meal Bacon, Egg, Cheese McGriddles Meal Sausage, Egg, Cheese McGriddles Meal Sausage McGriddles Meal Two Sausage Burritos Meal McDonald's Breakfast Master Tips As a self-proclaimed McDonald's breakfast expert, here's my advice on how to maximize your McDonald's breakfast experience. #1: Be Punctual This advice is for those of you who want an item that's only offered during the designated breakfast hours. It's a fast-food tragedy to arrive at McDonald's at 10:45 AM and be told that you can't order McGriddles. Set an alarm. Push yourself to achieve your goal of getting to the golden arches during breakfast time. Then, you can reward yourself with a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit, or any other delicious breakfast treat you desire. #2: Consider Your Goals Think about what you're trying to get out of this meal. Do you just want the tastiest meal possible? If you're solely concerned with taste, then think about your preferences. Personally, I think you'll have the tastiest meal by getting a breakfast sandwich and hash browns. Determine which breakfast sandwich to order by answering the following questions: Do you prefer sausage or bacon? Would you rather have your sandwich on an English muffin, biscuit, or McGriddles? Do you prefer a poached egg or folded egg? Your answers will determine the best McDonald's breakfast sandwich for you. If you prefer sausage, biscuits, and folded eggs, then you immediately know that the Sausage Biscuit With Egg is the ideal choice for you and your taste buds. Do you want a cheap meal? If cost is a consideration, then first look at the cheapest entrees. Hopefully, at least one will sound appetizing to you. You can get two Sausage McMuffins or Sausage Biscuits and a hash browns for $3. Also, if you're trying to limit your cost, I recommend sticking with a cup of water for your beverage. If you need some caffeine, go for the regular coffee as opposed to one of the fancier McCafe drinks. Are you trying to be healthy? If you want a healthier meal, order one of the "healthy" options or an Egg McMuffin, which is less unhealthy than the other breakfast sandwiches. You're probably also going to want to pass on the hash browns. I'm sorry. I know they're delicious. #3: Remember: It's Fast Food, NOT Fine Food Some food snobs will harshly judge the McDonald's breakfast because it doesn't use the same high-quality ingredients as upscale sit-down restaurants. Yes, McDonald's may use lower quality eggs than you'll find in your $14 brunch frittata, but McDonald's eggs taste good to me and millions of people. If you can only indulge in fresh, organic ingredients, then Mickey D's probably isn't the place for you. But if you're looking for a fast, satisfying meal at a very reasonable price, then you can't go wrong with McDonald's breakfast. My dream is that McDonald's will give me free breakfast for life for my endorsement. In North America, there are 8 important spruce species most important to theà timber trade, the Christmas tree industry and to landscapers. Spruce trees grow at either high altitudes in the southern Appalachians to New England or at higher latitudes in Canada and the higher elevations of Pacific coastal mountains and the Rocky Mountains. Red spruce occupies the Appalachians into upper Northeastern states and provinces. White and blue spruce trees mainly grow throughout most of Canada. Englemann spruce, blue spruce, and Sitkaà spruce are native to the western states and Canadian provinces.à Note: Norway spruce is a common non-native European tree that has been extensively planted and has naturalized in North America. They are primarily found in areas of the Northeast, the Great Lake States and Southeastern Canada and the best are cut for New York Citys Rockefellerà Center annual Christmas Tree. Identification of the Common North American Spruce Trees Spruces are large trees and can be distinguished by their whorled branches where needles radiate equally in all directions around the branch (and look very much like a bristle brush). The needles of spruce trees are attached singly to the branches sometimes in a spiral fashion. On firs, there isà a distinct lack of needles on the bottom side of itsà twig, unlike spruces that carry needles in a whirl all around the twig. In true firs, the base of each needle is attached to a twig by a structure that looks like a suction cup.à On the other hand, each spruce needle is situated on a small peg-like structure called a pulvinus. Thisà structure will remain on the branch after the needle drops and will have a rough texture to the touch. The needles (with the exception of Sitka spruce) under magnification are clearly four-sided, four-angled and with four whitish stripe line. The cones of spruce are oblong and cylindrical that tend to be attached to limbs mostly at the top of the trees. Fir trees also have similar lookingà cones,à primarily at the top, but tendà to stand upright where spruce hangs downward. These cones do not drop and disintegrate attached to the tree twig.à The Common North American Spruce Red spruceColorado blue spruceBlack spruceWhite spruceSitka spruceEnglemann spruce More on Spruce Trees Spruces, like firs, have absolutely no insect or decay resistance when exposed to the outside environment. Therefore, the woodà is generally recommended for indoor housing use, for sheltered support framing and in furniture for cheaper structural construction. It is also used when pulped to make bleached softwood kraft. Spruce is considered to be a significant North American timber product and the timber trade gives it names like SPF (spruce, pine, fir) and whitewood. Spruce wood is used for many purposes, ranging from general construction work and crates to highly specialized uses in wooden aircraft. Theà Wright brothers first aircraft, theà Flyer, was built of spruce. Spruces are popular ornamental trees in theà horticultural landscaping trade and enjoyedà for their evergreen, symmetrical narrow-conic growth habit. For the same reason, non-nativeà Norway spruce is also extensively used asà Christmas trees. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 was drafted by the senator Paul Sarbanes and representative Michael Oxley (SOX-online.com, 2006: Online). The primary objective of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act was to protect and safeguard the interests of the investors by assuring transparency, accuracy and reliability of the financial disclosures made by the corporations. It is a mandatory Act and all the large and small US organizations are required to abide by and follow the provisions and requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. This Act came into force in the year 2002 and brought in sweeping changes into the area of financial disclosure and corporate governance (Sarbanes-Oxley Act, 2006: Online). The Enhanced Standards Required by Sarbanes-Oxley Act The Sarbanes-Oxley Act not only established new standards of financial accounting and corporate governance but also made provisions f or the apt statutory penalties to be imposed in case of any wrongdoing not allowed for and sanctioned by this act. The Act made the corporate accounting system more transparent and responsible by formalizing and assuring the interaction between corporate auditors and corporate boards and executives . This totally obliterated the possibility of an excuse on the part of top executives in corporations regarding being unaware of the organizational accounting systems and the accompanying disclosures made by the auditors. To put it simply, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act made the top executives like CEOs and CFOs directly responsible for corporate accounting and subsequently culpable in case of any wrongdoing or misreporting in the organizationââ¬â¢s financial reporting (US Securities and Exchange Commission 2010: Online). This act clearly specifies the responsibilities associated with the organizational financial accounting. Sarbanes-Oxley Act has also introduced a mechanism of internal contro ls and monitoring to assure the credibility of financial reporting (US Securities and Exchange Commission, 2010: Online). According to this act, the companies are required to tag an internal control report with every financial report (US Securities and Exchange Commission, 2010: Online). The yearly financial reports are also required to report on the reliability and effectiveness of the internal controls (US Securities and Exchange Commission, 2010: Online). Further, the concerned auditing firms are required to stand behind these reports (US Securities and Exchange Commission, 2010: Online). This places the onus on the auditing firms to review the associated procedures, controls and policies, besides conducting the regular financial audit (US Securities and Exchange Commission, 2010: Online). In case a company fails to abide by any requirement or section of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the act allows for a range of penalties for the culprit organization and executives, which include fine s amounting to Dominic Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04307786532921450204noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3953494253014853811.post-14651216146282085882019-11-19T11:21:00.001-08:002019-11-19T11:21:02.718-08:00Literature review on Wind power Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 wordsOn Wind power - Literature review Example ; (3) the power in the wind is proportional to the density of the air (Park, 1982). According to history, the practical use of wind power began with the Egyptians around 2800 BC when slaves were made to row overseas using sails which were further employed in lifting water and operating grain-grinding stones even to within the period when Persians built panemones or vertical-shaft windmills in 700 AD. Some other civilizations of the Middle East followed the same tradition whereas the Crusaders of the West are believed to have improved the windmill concept that led the Dutch to put up propeller-type windmills structured with horizontal shafts or axes of propulsion. Technical developments continued during the Middle Ages and comparative studies show aspects of similarity among windmills founded in British colonies, New England, and Holland which altogether bore significant impact in the construction of the widely known ââ¬ËAmerican Farm Windmillââ¬â¢ which was invented by Daniel H alliday who, in the mid-19th century, thought of creating a multi-bladed (Panemone Bladed Rotor Wind Energy Harvester with 8 Airfoils) windmill. At the turn of the century, wind-produced electricity as well as wind-charger technology became popular, especially to the farmers of the Great Plains who necessitated up to 1,000 Watts of DC-power in their mechanically run farming tasks. Eventually, a number of countries in Europe were inspired to create wind generators of enormous size and both the French and the Germans attempted to conduct feasibility experimentation on 100-kW and 300-kW wind generator units in the 50s and the 60s. Through the years, the continuous process of harnessing wind power made possible not only D. Hallidayââ¬â¢s multi-bladed craft but even the succeeding advancements in the iron water-pump industry which heightened the demand for wind-powered deep well pumps in the past. While the energy derived from the wind had been discovered with other chief potentials a s in heating houses and barns, running sawmills and washing machines, several Midwest farmers who already possessed gasoline or kerosene generators to charge batteries still sought the aid of wind power in minimizing troubles with wear-and-tear generators and in reducing costs of fuels used. Such capacities, however, depend upon the quantities of wind power in acquisition. In his findings, P.C. Putnam illustrates a method to approximate the amount of power which can be extracted from the wind and the means to locate wind power with considerations to the periodic fluctuations in wind power as well as its reliability and short-term predictability. The author regards the concepts of kinetics hereafter necessarily pointing out that, like the kinetic energy of any particle, the kinetic energy of the wind may be computed via half of its mass multiplied by the square of the wind velocity and in terms of the volume V of air passing over an area A per unit time, the windââ¬â¢s kinetic ene rgy equals the product between wind density and (1/2)*AV 3. I did some online research and also asked my childrenââ¬â¢s Foster Mother, Regina Metzger the questions. I wanted to see what the differences of what I found online and what she said the beliefs were. So this is a mixture of what I got from my online sources and what she said. Jehovahââ¬â¢s Witnesses differ from other religious groups because they believe that their entire bible is the inspired word of god, and instead of adhering to a creed based on human tradition, they hold to their bible as the standard for all their beliefs. Based on their bible, they believe that Jesus Christ is son of god, the first of godââ¬â¢s creations, that he had a pre-human existence and that his life was transformed from heaven to the womb of a virgin. They believe that godââ¬â¢s kingdom is the only hope for mankind. They are many different nationalities. They have no prejudices against any race or color. Their worship is through prayer, meetings and telling others about their bible. They believe that their bible is the inspired word of God, and instead of adhering to a creed based on human tradition, they hold their bible as the standard. The experience of the Jehovahââ¬â¢s Witnesses that other religious groups do not share is that they are viewed with moral standards that coincide with their bible. They are law abiding citizens that respect authority. They show, what they believe is, genuine Christian love to their neighbors. For example, letââ¬â¢s say there are two girls. One of which is a Jehovah Witness and one that is not. They both were asked to spit on the American Flag. In this situation, the Jehovahââ¬â¢s Witness wonââ¬â¢t and the other would. One might ask ââ¬Å"Why donââ¬â¢t you spit on the flag even though you donââ¬â¢t solute it? The answer from the Johanaââ¬â¢s Witness would be simply, ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t pledge my allegiance to the flag, but I wouldnââ¬â¢t disrespect it either. â⬠They are neutral. Jehovahââ¬â¢s Witnesses contribute to the American Culture because they feel they are the advocates of their Godââ¬â¢s kingdom. They are not of the political, economic, or social system of any nation of the old world. They did have their modern day start in the United States. They do pay taxes, which means they work regular jobs just like any other person. Jehovahââ¬â¢s Witnesses do not interfere with what others do about sharing in patriotic ceremonies. Like, sharing in the armed forces and joining a political party or even voting. They worship their god only. They believe that if Christians under one nation go to war against another nation they would be fighting against fellow believers. They believe that fighting against the same people who prayed for help to the same god is wrong. That is why they wonââ¬â¢t go to war and will serve time in jail or prison to avoid killing their Christian brothers and sisters. However they are not afraid to die for their faith. If they are threatened with death or to renounce their faith, they will die for what they believe in. I know that before my children went into foster care I had limited information on what Jehovahââ¬â¢s Witnesses were all about. I was under the impression that they only went house to house on Saturdays knocking on doors. I thought they were annoying. Feeling like everywhere I went I was approached by one saying that they are the only true word of God, when I thought my god was. I learned quickly that everyone has a different idea of what their God was. Jehovahââ¬â¢s witnesses have been known to not celebrate holidays like birthdays, Christmas, or thanksgiving. I would use their religion as a type of threat toward my children saying ââ¬Å"If you donââ¬â¢t knock it off we will become Jehovahââ¬â¢s Witness and then you wonââ¬â¢t get presents during birthdays or holidays. â⬠Since, my children are in a home with this as the main religion and belief system, I feel like I should apologize to them because I must have sounded like a bigot. I think that the discrimination and stereotyping that Jehovahââ¬â¢s Witnesses experience comes from a lack of understanding by anyone of a different belief. I think that what I have learned about this religious group did help me nderstand it. It helped me to realize that Jehovahââ¬â¢s Witnesses, like any other religion, just want to show everyone that what they believe is not bad. They want to show what their religion means. They want the same as others do, the belief that you can be saved by a god. The racial/ethnic group that I chose is the Pacific Islanders. I chose this group because I donââ¬â¢t know nothing about it. I think getting information on this group will be extremely interesting. Pacific Islanders are from many different places. American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Hawaii, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Norfolk Island, Mariana Islands, Palau, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis and Futuna, and the Independent State of Western Samoa. (http://www. pica-org. org/websurf/websurf. html). In 2011 there were approximately 1,371,564 Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders who live within the United States. They significantly reside in California, Washington, Utah, Texas, New York, Texas, and Florida. They make up about . % of the U. S. Population (http://minorityhealth. hhs. gov/templates/browse. aspx? lvl=2lvlID=71) On May 29, 2013 President Obama spoke about AAPI (Asian-American and Pacific Islander) Heritage Month. (http://www. whitehouse. gov/administration/eop/aapi/blog) I thought that was very interesting. He talked about his Pacific Islander ethnic background. He said: ââ¬Å"We value these voices because from the very beginning, ours has been a nation of immigrants; a nation challenged and shaped and push ever forward by diverse perspectives and fresh thinking. And in order to keep our edge and stay ahead in the global race, we need to figure out a way to fix our broken immigration system-to welcome that infusion of newness, while still maintaining the enduring strength of our laws. And the service and the leadership of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have proved that point in time and again. â⬠Listening to him give a speech about the greatness of Pacific Islanders made me appreciate that ethnic group even more. Pacific Islanders speak over 100 different languages and come from more than 56 ethnic groups. (http://www. cdc. ov/features/aapiheritagemonth/). They are parts of many different religions. Like the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Growing up in my church there were many Pacific Islanders members of our church. I can remember many of them having big families with many children. The Pacific Islanders do many things to contribute to American Culture. They contribute by working jobs. 7. 4 million Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are employed in the United States. They make up 5. 3% of the total workforce in the United States. About 300,000 workers are Pacific Islanders. (http://www. cepr. net/index. hp/publications/reports/diversity-and-change July 2011, Hye Jin Rho, John Schmitt, Nicole Woo, Lucia Lin and Kent Wong) Like many other cultures, they bring their delicious foods. They have a multitude of food from different countries. They bring that all to the table here in the United States. Although some of them have changed their diets to a more of an American way of eating, some still eat the foods of their lands. Throughout history, there has been many instances of racism and sexism toward Pacific Islanders in the United States Pacific Islanders continue to face oppression, racism, and discrimination in the United States. Since Pacific Islanders have a higher rate of diabetes they were charged higher rates for health insurance. The Affordable Care Act Will be a very good change for Pacific Islanders. They are known to suffer from higher rates of all types of circular diseases like, stroke, hypertension, and coronary heart disease. They also have the highest rates of obesity. The Affordable Care Act will change it so that it will be easier to get health care for them. Some states have had an English-only type of initiative. They seem to be for people who only speak English. I had no idea they were even allowed by law. It seems as though that people find ways to discriminate even with the laws that have been put in place. Just because some people cannot speak any other language, besides English. For them everything needs to be in English and no other language. About a century before, European-Americans did not allow people who didnââ¬â¢t speak English to learn English because they were afraid that they would become a minority. They were afraid of being ââ¬Å"out-smartedâ⬠by others. They didnââ¬â¢t want to have to compete for fear of losing. I donââ¬â¢t believe this is fair. That is why I am glad there are some many laws coming into effect as well as more to come to make this country an even better place. (http://aspe. hhs. gov/health/reports/2012/ACAAsianAmericansPacificIslanders/rb. shtml) Most European Americans have discriminated against Pacific Islanders because they didnââ¬â¢t know English. The European Americans were afraid that if the Pacific Islanders learned English they would exceed them in many ways. They would become the minority. Many of the European Americans were believed to be threatened by this. I think I now have a better understanding of what it is like to be a Pacific Islander. The discrimination they have faced has seemed to make them a stronger people. I am happy to have them as part of my country. In conclusion, both Jehovahââ¬â¢s Witnesses and The Pacific Islander, people have experienced a discrimination that seems to have happened because of people who do not understand what they go through daily. They both seem to succeed in their lives because of the discrimination they have experienced. The Jehovahââ¬â¢s Witnesses hold up to their beliefs like the Pacific Islanders stand strong with their ethnic background. They are different because one is a religion and one is an ethnic group. An ethnic group is a group of people who have the same customs or origin. A religion is a belief in a god or a group of gods. I think that both the Pacific Islanders and the Jehovahââ¬â¢s Witnesses get discriminated against because of a lack of understanding. Richard Pryor and David Adkins or ââ¬Å"Sinbadâ⬠are two of the most notorious comedians in American culture, but the lives they lived were on extreme ends of the spectrum. They both started out in or were kind of pushed into comedy when their real hopes and dreams fell short. Both of them served their country in the army for two years, and then jumped on the comedy circuit, traveling the country to play small gigs. Their struggle to become famous was similar in that they both worked extremely hard to get where they wanted to be. Their upbringing was altogether different though. à à à à à Sinbad grew up as the son of a minister in Benton Harbor, MI and went to a respectable high school where he excelled in basketball. He attained a scholarship to the University of Denver in hopes that it would open up some doors for him but he was cut off when he suffered a career ending knee injury. In 1983, he embarked on his self-subsidized ââ¬Å"Poverty Tourâ⬠of comedy clubs across the U.S. His career started to take off, when he made several appearances on the talent show ââ¬Å"Star Searchâ⬠. He then landed a few small parts on T.V. showââ¬â¢s eventually catching the eye of Bill Cosby who put him on his new show ââ¬Å"A Different Worldâ⬠in which he played a kind dorm director at an all black college. This led him into a few starring and co-starring roles in major motion pictures and made the name Sinbad, a household name across the country. à à à à à If I were to describe Sinbadââ¬â¢s style of comedy, I would have to say it to be much different than that of Richard Pryor. Sinbadââ¬â¢s humor is more family oriented. His homegrown humor is comparable to Bill Cosby, and his good hearted party nature is similar to Sammy Davis Jr. He is one who, like Pryor, has used his fame to help bring people together in a positive environment, such as his ââ¬Å"Share the Dreamâ⬠tour of historically black colleges and ââ¬Å"The Sinbad Soul Festivalâ⬠which performs all over the world. à à à à à Richard Pryorââ¬â¢s life on the other hand has been more dramatic than a Greek tragedy. His accomplishments in life are in total opposition with all of the tribulations that he faced to achieve them, beginning with his childhood.
